(aka the Burden of Black Genius), which is premiering on the 2025 Sundance Movie Pageant. (aka The Burden of Black Genius) examines the life and legacy of Sly & The Household Stone, the groundbreaking band led by the charismatic and enigmatic Sly Stone. This movie captures the rise, reign and subsequent fadeout of one in all pop music’s most influential artists, but additionally shines a light-weight on how Black artists in America navigate the unseen burden that comes with their success. Drawing from his personal private expertise and relationships, Questlove tells an empathetic human story about the price of genius, reframing the way in which all of us interact with popular culture. Sly Lives! (aka the Burden of Black Genius) is directed by musician / filmmaker Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, directing his second characteristic movie after making Summer time of Soul beforehand. Produced by Joseph Patel and Derik Murray. That is premiering on the 2025 Sundance Movie Pageant this month within the Premieres part.
