Social media character Alix Earle has addressed newest claims about her trademarking offensive suggestions she beforehand made on ASKfm.
In an announcement shared on her Instagram story on Monday, Earle admitted she had repeatedly used a racial slur on the question-and-answer site in 2014.
“A couple of weeks previously, screenshots surfaced from my earlier ask.fm account displaying me using a slur within the summertime of 2014,” Earle wrote. “I’m taking accountability and have to make it clear that I was 13 years earlier and didn’t understand the deeply offensive which means behind that phrase. That’s no excuse for using that phrase in any context or at any age. That’s fully not the easiest way I converse or what I stand for.”
Screenshots of these offensive suggestions — which have been posted on the Alix Earle Snark Reddit net web page in 2023 — resurfaced on platforms like TikTok and completely different subreddits this month.
After the screenshots have been shared on a subreddit known as r/DoWeKnowThemPodcast, an internet web page named after the podcast hosted by Jessi Smiles and Lily Marston, the two hosts have been allegedly contacted by Earle’s authorized professionals.
“Her lawyer contacted us and said that we’ve violated their copyright,” Smiles said in an Aug. 12 episode of the “Do We Know Them?” podcast. “Of us posted screenshots of [her racist posts] in our subreddit, and her lawyer said that they’ve a trademark to that,” she added.
Smiles well-known that she and Marston haven’t any affiliation with that subreddit, saying, “We don’t cheap it and we don’t have any entry to it.”
In her assertion, Earle known as these trademarking claims “fully ridiculous and untrue.”
“I regret how I handled this instance, allowing too many people to talk me out of claiming one factor for too prolonged,” Earle wrote. “I wasn’t sure how one can take care of it and sadly the advice I was given, although properly meant, was incorrect. There isn’t a such factor as a one accountable nevertheless myself for not standing my flooring and going with my gut to speak immediately.”
